Why I Teach: My desire in teaching yoga is to share the art of yoga that has changed my life, and brought joy, grace, strength, inner peace, beauty, and a sense of empowerment to all that I do.
Why I Teach Privately- One on One & In Small Groups: In a private yoga class, the practice is personally designed for your needs, your body, and your desires. A one on one or small student teacher ratio offers personal instruction and safety that is hard to get in large classes. Another benefit of personal instruction is that it allows you to choose the place and time you do yoga, thereby making it easier to integrate a consistent practice into your life.
Types of Yoga Taught: Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga: (first and second series - inspired by the style of Shri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India): Ashtanga yoga is a powerful system of yoga designed to cleanse, stretch, and strengthen the body as well as focus and calm the mind. Centered around ujjayia (victory) breath and the subtle practice of the bandhas (energy locks), the flow of movement between poses sets this system of yoga apart from other methods. Because this yoga is also a demanding physical workout, it is best to practice at least 2-3 times a week, if not 5-6 as is traditional. Ashtanga yoga is the traditional system from which the westernized "Vinyasa" or "Power-yoga" was developed.
Vinyasa Flow: This practice is inspired by ashtanga yoga, but modified to be less strenuous and to move more slowly for beginners. The sequence of poses is individually created for each private student or group.
Gentle / Restorative Yoga & Guided Imagery Meditation: A blend of pranayama (breathing), beginning postures, and restorative (relaxation) poses designed for releasing stress, relaxation, and just feeling good. Ideal for those who are older, injured, pregnant, have special needs, or simply want to treat themselves nice. During the final relaxation the client is guided through a personalized imagery meditation/relaxation.
Transformative Yoga: A combination of an ashtanga, or vinyasana flow physical yoga practice and guided imagery meditations with emphasis on confronting and transforming ones inner psyche. The yoga practice is focused in a way that symbolically addresses the challenges that life brings.
"Do your yoga practice and all is coming." (Shri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore India)
